The inability of such people to explain their constraints and challenges to others further exacerbate their condition. A number of paraphilic disorders affect a multitude of people, irrespective of class, demography, race, ethnicity, etc. Such conditions inflict distress not only to individuals but also on the society. Although a number of such disorders have been identified and diagnosed by medical professionals, the Fifth Edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) by the American Psychiatric Association (APA) highlights only eight specific paraphilic disorders that include exhibitionistic disorder, frotteurism, sexual masochism disorder (SMD), voyeuristic disorder, sexual sadism disorder, pedophilic disorder, fetishistic disorder and transvestism.
